Celebrities And Bidets

It's no secret that bidet seats have been in the news a lot lately. After all, they are still a relatively new concept here in America, and are certainly less mainstream than in other parts of the world. Many people are still getting used to the idea, while others still need to be educated on their benefits.

But certainly, the popularity of the bidet is growing. As people begin to realize the health and ecological benefits that paperless bidets and bidet seats bring, more and more people are utilizing these bathroom wonders.

And of course, anything trendy usually has some celebrity backing. As you sit back and enjoy the Academy Awards this evening, I thought it would be a good idea to list some of the celebrities who have come out in support of bidets. Here are just a few:

Joy Behar, co-host of The View, comedian, and television personality is very vocal about her love of a bidet. When interviewed about her thoughts on travel, she was asked how she chooses a hotel. Her answer was "Any place that has a bidet or bidet seat." When she appeared in comedian Lewis Black's 2009 holiday special, "Surviving the Holidays With Lewis Black" she was asked by Lewis if she had ever attended the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Her non sequitur response? "You know, some people love a parade; I love a bidet."

Radio personality and "King of All Media" Howard Stern has had many discussions about bidets and bidet seats on his live Sirius radio talk show. Known for his frank discussions on bathroom habits, Stern now sees many benefits to using a bidet seat. After much discussion about trying one, Stern decided to buy one himself, and often speaks about it on his popular radio show.

Comedian Ron White discusses the joy of discovering a bidet in his hotel bathroom in his comedy special "Behavioral Problems."

Fellow comic Lewis Black tells a little bit of a different story, however: "Just yesterday I was ¦ at the Omni in Houston, and [my hotel room] had a bidet. And it's the funniest thing ” I went, ˜Wow.' I turned the water on to see, and it shot right in my eye. So I've learned nothing."

Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott: leading R& B recording artist and producer, Missy showcased her personal bidet in her sprawling Miami mansion in her second appearance on MTV's Cribs.

Howie Mandel's recent book, "Here's the Deal, Don't Touch Me" described the game show host/ actor/comedian's battle with OCD and "germaphobe" behavior. In an interview on the Howard Stern Show, Mandel discussed his book and experiences. He talked about having purchased a $6,000 toilet that opens and closes itself and has a bidet built-in: "It's like a power wash", stated Howie. "It's like sand-blasting¦I turn the pressure up so high, I'm actually hovering. I'm hovering on a geyser."
